BEB
Erdgas und Erdöl GmbH have awarded a new data management project to DPTS.
DPTS
have been providing Data Management and Transcription services to BEB for over
10 years. This has included remastering
over a quarter of a million analogue, 21 track and 9 track tapes, archiving
borehole seismic data, vectorising camera monitor records and conducting a data
audit. In addition DPTS manages the BEB
“Shadow Archive” in its Kent data store.
The
experience that DPTS have gained in managing BEB data was a significant factor
in the decision to award the latest project to DPTS. In this project DPTS are remastering approximately 40,000 9 track
tapes, 3480 and 3490E cartridges to 3590 cartridge.
A
key element of the project is the indexing requirement. The BEB tape database is OPEN RSO and the
“Shadow Archive” tape database at DPTS is our Diplomat MultiStore™
product. Both databases are being
compared in order to produce a complete set of data for archiving, and
MultiStore is being used by DPTS to control the production process.
After
remastering, one set of 3590 outputs will be stored by DPTS in MultiStore and
another set by BEB in an updated OPEN RSO database. It is intended that the input tapes and “Shadow Archive” tapes
will be destroyed in an environmentally friendly manner thus significantly
reducing BEB storage costs.
The
project will be performed at the DPTS office in St. Paul’s Cray, Kent and will
be completed by the end of 2000.
