Following an international tendering process, National Oil Corporation of Kenya (National Oil) has awarded a contract to DPTS for Tape Transcription Services.

National Oil Corporation is the repository of Kenya's oil and gas exploration data, such as well logs, seismic, gravity and magnetic data, acquired in the country since the 1950s. Great value is attached to these data tapes, and National Oil Corporation want to accurately preserve the data by recovering it from old media and transcribing it to modern media in industry-standard formats.

The contract awarded to DPTS involves the recovery, reformatting and transcription of approximately 3,500 9-track tapes of various brands and vintages. The data will be transcribed to 3590 cartridges with a separate backup copy on LTO3 cartridges. DPTS will complete the project in the National Oil Corporation tape store in Nairobi over a period of four months.

DPTS are the recognised industry leaders for international transcription projects, having completed a number of similar projects for other national oil companies in recent years, and National Oil Corporation will benefit from this experience in the recovery and preservation of their data archive.
