DPTS have pioneered the investigation
of media decay, commonly referred to as stiction, and have
developed various methods for data recovery from old media.
Stiction occurs when magnetic tapes decay over a period of
time, causing the oxide coating to separate from the polyester
backing tape. The tape becomes sticky and can stick to the
read/write heads causing damage to the drive and loss of data.

Using techniques, specialist equipment and software developed
by DPTS we are able to recover data
successfully in cases where others fail
DPTS are also able to recover data
from tapes with skew errors. We maintain specialist tape drives
which allow the Operator to adjust the skew of the read/write
head manually for optimum recovery of data.
