Exploration Archives is a website run by DPTS to manage digital exploration data for its clients. It has been designed to facilitate identification of distinct products (datasets) and to provide the maximum amount of information about each product to the user. The gathering of the information provides rigorous QC of each dataset in the form of contents listings, maps, headers etc. produced using DPTS Diplomat™ tape utility software.

All content is entered by DPTS with users having read only access. Provision of an ordering system is anticipated by the end of 2007.

The website design enables users to narrow their search via country, region, field, and area to identify the surveys for which data is held and to list all the different products available for each survey.

At the site the user is asked for a username and password. These are allocated by DPTS and there can be multiple users.

On entering the site the user is presented with a list of surveys for which data is held:

This list can be sorted by clicking any of the field headings and can be filtered by country, region and field.

By clicking on the required survey, a list of available products is presented and below this is a plot of the survey (typically taken from the DEAL website with permission) for quick reference:

Products are defined by contractor, year, product type, description, media and format and the number of items in each is given. Each product listed also has a DPTS Product ID (PID) which is a unique shorthand identifier (within client) for the product, particularly useful when ordering data.

By clicking on the required product, relevant tabs are presented. The available tabs are:

TAPE LABEL
An image of a typical media item from the product.
HEADER If the format is SEGY or UKOOA, the first file header card read from the first tape in the product is displayed. Optionally this can include the first trace header.
CONTENTS A list of the media in the dataset and their contents. Wherever possible, this list is generated by reading the tapes themselves.
TIMESLICE For 3D data with coordinates in the trace headers a time-slice is taken of the entire product, typically at 2000ms (client definable).
INLINES For 3D data with coordinates in the trace headers, a movie is made typically of every 50th inline (client definable subject to file size limitations).
ANALYSIS For 3D data with coordinates in the trace header, the analysis shows miscellaneous geometry details. For other data types this tab can be used to provide additional comment or explanation.
MAP For UKOOA format a map is plotted from the data.
