DPTS have completed seismic and well log services contracts for Wintershall Nordzee B.V. Following their acquisition of Clyde Petroleum Exploratie BV in the Netherlands, Wintershall Noordzee needed to include the additional seismic and well log data in their corporate database. Two contracts were awarded to DPTS to perform these services.

For the seismic data DPTS analysed existing databases and other listings to help Wintershall define priorities for transcription and identify duplicate datasets which did not need to be transcribed.

A total of 42,000 field and processed seismic tapes acquired over the past 40 years were transcribed to 3590 cartridges. Index files were generated of the data transcribed and the associated paper data was scanned to PDF files.

For the well log project data from 1100 wells was processed. DPTS identified and eliminated duplicate tapes and then transcribed over 3000 well log tapes to DVD, after applying specialised recovery and repair services to problem tapes.
  
7500 hard copy well logs were scanned and the digital data from the tapes was overlaid on the scanned images of the well logs to determine where digital data was missing. Over six million curve-metres of logs were digitised to fill in the gaps.

Selected curves were composited and output in a format suitable for loading to an OpenWorks database. In addition 12,000 reports were scanned and numerical data was extracted from the scanned documents via OCR.

For both projects a backup security copy of the output media was produced and the original input media was destroyed in an environmentally-friendly way.
